That’s the reason you often see a small girl cradling a baby doll, tending to its imaginary needs. Unfortunately, reality often steps in and some women struggle for years to conceive. It is disheartening and frustrating to wait every month in anticipation of taking the first steps towards motherhood, only to discover that you aren’t pregnant. Although turning to traditional medicine is usually the next step, some women are looking for an alternative approach. There are natural ways to get pregnant, and many women are finding great success with them.

Timing is obviously crucial when it comes to having a baby. It’s important to recognize when the optimum time for conception is each month. If a woman does this, she greatly increases her chances of getting pregnant. An easy and inexpensive way to do this is to track your temperature. When a woman is in ovulation her body temperature will increase. Taking your temperature at the same time each morning is one of the best ways to get pregnant, as you’ll know when the right time to try is.

There are certain foods that are said to help increase the chances of conception occurring. Naturally any woman who is trying to get pregnant should be sticking to a very healthy diet. It’s been suggested that foods rich in Vitamin A can help improve the consistency of a woman’s cervical fluid. This can really aid in helping conception to occur. Carrots and spinach are just two examples of foods that you’ll want to consider eating during ovulation. In addition to being one of the ways to get pregnant it also helps keep your body strong, which is really needed once you are carrying your new bundle of joy.

Stress can really play havoc with any woman’s body. It can throw your cycle out of whack which makes it much harder to determine when you can get pregnant. Stress relievers can be a wonderful addition to a woman’s life during, before and after pregnancy. Exercise, meditation and even just talking with others about your troubles will actually help you in some ways to get pregnant. If you feel less stress, and more relaxed you’ll stand a much better chance of conceiving.

If you are a smoker, it’s time to give it up once you decide to become a mom. Smoking isn’t healthy for a mom-to-be, or anyone, for that matter. You certainly don’t want to be smoking once you have conceived, and by stopping before you become pregnant, you’ll ensure your baby is growing in a healthier environment.

Once you do make the decision to have a baby, do all you can to make certain that you conceive when you want to. Taking care of yourself, along with timing your ovulation period and relaxing as much as possible are some of the best ways to get pregnant. Once you hold that newborn baby in your arms you’ll be glad you took the steps you needed to before you became pregnant.

Most women rely on popular contraception methods like birth control pills and condoms to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Although the Pill and most common forms of contraception used by men and women are highly reliable in preventing pregnancies, there is still the possibility of getting pregnant while on birth control albeit being very minimal. Below are five reasons that may cause pregnancies while on birth control:

Improper use of chosen contraception method

Most contraception and birth control methods are almost a hundred percent pregnancy-proof. Human error plays a large part why unplanned pregnancies occur among people practicing birth control.

One such example is the improper use of the Pill. The Pill must be taken at exactly the same time everyday. Forgetting or being late in taking a scheduled Pill intake and having unprotected sex can cause a pregnancy. Also, since the Pill is taken in cycles, a disruption in the cycle caused by missed birth control pills can be tricky to correct and cause an unplanned pregnancy without a backup or alternative form of birth control.

Condoms are also prone to misuse. Not taking the air out of the condom before putting it on can cause it to burst due the friction created by the intercourse. Also, using a condom that does not fit well can cause it to burst or slide and spill the semen during intercourse.

Diaphragms, cervical caps, and IUDs, on the other hand, need to be checked at least once a month for proper positioning. Misalignment or improper coverage can provide little pathways for the sperm to reach the egg and start the conception process.

Inconsistent usage of contraception methods

Inconsistency in the use of contraception methods also contribute to the number of unplanned pregnancies that occur while on birth control. Missed birth control pills or having unprotected sex without condoms “just this one time,” is enough to cause a pregnancy. Since sperm can live inside the woman’s reproductive system for days, having just one unprotected encounter is enough to cause a pregnancy even if the succeeding sexual intercourse made use of contraceptives.

Other antibiotic medications

Taking antibiotic medications have been found to affect and interfere with the efficacy of birth control pills. Antibiotic medications can decrease the levels of steriod plasma concentrations in the pills which can drastically alter their effects. If pills are taken along with antibiotic medication, it is advised that women and their partners use backup birth control methods to augment the decreased efficacy of the pills. Backup contraceptives can come in the form of sperm gels, creams, and condoms.

Broken condoms and other barrier methods

Breakage is the prime cause of failure for barrier methods of contraception. Broken condoms and other barrier methods provide a way for the sperm to escape and reach the egg. Condoms are usually broken due to the increased friction and pressure during intercourse. Using the right-sized condoms and proper latex-safe lubricants can help minimize condom ruptures. Other barrier methods can benefit from monthly checkups to assess and maintain the right fit.

Believing there is a safe time for unprotected sex

There is never a safe time for unprotected sex. Studies have shown that while most women get pregnant during their mid-cycle or fertile days, some also get pregnant on days that normally considered as non-fertile. As such, it is advised that protection should always be used whenever one has sex to prevent unplanned pregnancies.

Are there better days to get pregnant? When is the best time to get pregnant during the reproductive cycle?

The best days to get pregnant will generally be the time when ovulation occurs. To better understand when is the best time to get pregnant, here are tips that are related to getting pregnant:

1. Know your most fertile time – generally, ovulation occurs about 14 days before your next menstrual period begins. That means if your menstrual cycle is a 28-day one, that could make day #14 your most fertile day (day #1 is the first day that your last period began). If yours is a 30-day cycle, day #16 could be the time to go for it. A 32-day cycle would have day #18 as one of the best days to get pregnant.

2. Track your basal body temperature – an inexpensive basal thermometer can be purchased and used to chart the slight elevations in your body temperature upon awakening each day that signal when is the best time to get pregnant. The increases in basal temperature may only be a tenth of a degree or so, but a basal thermometer can detect this kind of minor temperature change.

3. Monitor your cervical mucus – ovulation causes a change in the appearance and consistency of cervical mucus. By checking yourself each day, you’ll be able to see the ‘egg-white-like’ vaginal discharge that indicates ovulation and which are the best days to get pregnant.

4. Obtain and read a good fertility book – learn as much as possible about fertility, getting pregnant, pregnancy and having a healthy baby.

5. Use an ovulation predictor kit – these inexpensive kits predict ovulation in advance so you definitely know when is the best time to get pregnant. This test has proven very accurate in detecting the increase in luteinizing hormone which usually occurs in women 24-48 hours before ovulation.

Making the decision to get pregnant and have a child can be an exciting and rearding experience. While this journey is often unpredictable, choices you make now can definitely affect your health and the health of your baby. The better your health as you are getting pregnant, the healthier your baby will be.

Are you thinking you might be pregnant and wondering what the most common signs of pregnancy are? It’s not all about a missed period and morning sickness, that’s for sure. During pregnancy women’s bodies experience countless wonderful and often unexpected changes, and it’s quite normal to have questions about how these changes might affect daily routines and relationships, and how to maintain good physical and mental health during pregnancy. Information about early symptoms and pregnancy in general can be found from a number of sources, including family planning centers, physician’s offices, and of course, on the web. A first pregnancy can be different from second and third (or beyond!) pregnancies and the symptoms can vary greatly from woman to woman. And by the way, not every pregnancy involves morning sickness; there are a few lucky women who manage to avoid it completely!

So how do you know when it’s time to take a pregnancy test? The following signs of pregnancy can mean a possible or positive pregnancy. One of the cardinal early signs of pregnancy is sensitive, tender, swollen breasts caused by increasing levels of hormones that should diminish after the first trimester. Fatigue is another common sign of pregnancy due to increased levels of progesterone, as well as a slight amount of bleeding caused by implantation of the embryo into the lining of the uterus. For those women who unfortunate enough to escape it, morning sickness, or should we say morning/afternoon/evening sickness, doesn’t start until about a month after conception. Increased sensitivity to odors may also be present due to higher estrogen levels, as well as abdominal bloating, and frequent urination due to increased fluid volume in the body. Those extra trips to the bathroom may signal pregnancy before you realize you didn’t get your period! A missed period if you’re usually on time can be a sign, but not if you’re irregular or not keeping track. If you haven’t had one for a while, and you have any symptoms, take a home pregnancy test to find out for sure.

If you’re at the point where you’re ready to use a home pregnancy test, remember that not all tests are created equal. Many home pregnancy tests are not sensitive enough to detect most pregnancies until about a week after a missed period, so if you take one earlier and get a negative result, try again in a few days. If you get a positive result make an appointment with your health care provider or obstetrician. He or she will confirm the signs of pregnancy you’ve been experiencing with another pregnancy test in the office, and prescribe prenatal vitamins in addition to setting up a schedule for future prenatal visits. To find out the most common and not so common signs of pregnancy, go online and browse through lots of comprehensive pregnancy information, including due date calculators, baby names and everything else dedicated to having the best pregnancy and birth experience possible.
